Logistiker

Logistiker is the German term for a logistics professional, commonly translated as logistician or logistics manager in English. The term is used in German-speaking countries such as Germany, Austria, and parts of Switzerland. A logistiker plans, implements, and controls the efficient forward and reverse flow of goods, services, and related information from origin to consumption to meet customer requirements and organizational goals.

Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing supply chains, forecasting demand, planning and controlling inventory, coordinating procurement, and selecting or managing transportation. They oversee warehousing, packaging, and distribution activities, monitor service levels, costs, and lead times, and ensure compliance with regulations in areas such as customs, safety, and environmental rules. Logistik professionals often participate in supplier management, risk assessment, and continuity planning, and use data analytics to identify improvements and drive cost reductions and service quality enhancements.

Skills and tools commonly associated with the role include strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, project management, and communication skills. Proficiency with enterprise resource planning and logistics software (for example SAP, Oracle, or Netsuite; WMS and TMS systems) and spreadsheet-based analysis is typical. Industry-standard certifications, such as APICS CPIM or CSCP, CILT, and Six Sigma, are commonly pursued to validate expertise. Educational paths usually involve a bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, industrial engineering, or business administration, with practical experience in warehousing, transportation, or procurement.

Work environments span manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, logistics service providers, healthcare, automotive, and public sector applications.
