Kudosjännitys

Kudosjännitys refers to the tension or stress experienced in the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot connecting the heel bone to the toes. This tissue plays a crucial role in supporting the arch of the foot and absorbing shock during activities like walking and running. When the plantar fascia is overstretched or subjected to excessive strain, it can become inflamed and develop microtears, leading to pain.

The primary symptom of kudosjännitys is sharp pain in the heel, often most noticeable with the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest. The pain may lessen with activity but can return after prolonged standing or exercise. Contributing factors can include excessive pronation (inward rolling of the foot), tight calf muscles or Achilles tendon, sudden increases in physical activity, wearing unsupportive footwear, obesity, and age-related changes in the foot.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination and assessment of the patient's medical history. Imaging techniques like X-rays or MRI are usually not necessary for diagnosis but may be used to rule out other conditions. Treatment aims to reduce inflammation and pain, and promote healing. This often includes rest, stretching exercises for the calf and plantar fascia, wearing supportive shoes and orthotics, ice application, and pain medication. In more persistent cases, corticosteroid injections or physical therapy may be recommended. Prevention strategies focus on maintaining a healthy weight, wearing appropriate footwear, and gradually increasing activity levels.
