Käskyrivipohjainen refers to a computer interface or system that is operated by typing commands into a text-based prompt. This is in contrast to a graphical user interface (GUI), which uses visual elements like icons and windows. In a command-line interface (CLI), users interact with the computer by entering specific commands, often followed by arguments or parameters, and then pressing Enter. The system processes these commands and displays the output as text.

CLIs are known for their efficiency and power, especially for tasks that involve automation, scripting, or complex operations. They offer a high degree of control and are often preferred by system administrators, developers, and power users who need to perform operations quickly and precisely. Common examples of command-line environments include the Unix shell (like Bash), Windows Command Prompt, and PowerShell.

While CLIs can have a steeper learning curve than GUIs due to the need to memorize commands and their syntax, they are highly versatile. They allow for complex operations to be chained together into scripts, enabling repetitive tasks to be automated. Many advanced features and system configurations are only accessible through a CLI. Despite the prevalence of GUIs, command-line interfaces remain a fundamental part of computing and are essential for understanding how many systems operate at a deeper level.
