Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, also known as Tatanagar, is a city in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, located in East Singhbhum district on the banks of the Subarnarekha River. It was founded by industrialist Jamsetji Tata and developed around the Tata Steel plant. The settlement originated as Sakchi and was renamed Jamshedpur in 1919 in honor of Jamsetji Tata. The city is widely described as India’s first planned industrial city, characterized by organized layouts, residential colonies for workers, and public amenities aligned with the steelworks.
