Indentaatioon

Indentaatioon refers to the process of creating an indent in text or blocks to offset them from the left margin. It is used to indicate the start of a new paragraph, to separate sections, and to convey structure in documents, code, and other forms of written content. The concept comes from the broader practice of indenting, which provides a visual cue that helps readers follow logical or hierarchical relationships. Indentaatioon can be achieved through spaces, tabs, or layout features in various editors and environments.

In typography, indentation commonly marks paragraph beginnings with a first-line indent. JSON and YAML examples often use indentation to illustrate structure, while code blocks and quoted text in documentation rely on indentation for clarity.
