Implantologists are dental professionals who specialize in dental implants, devices surgically anchored into the jawbone to support replacement teeth. They may be general dentists with advanced training or specialists such as oral surgeons, periodontists, or prosthodontists who focus on implant procedures. The core goal is to replace missing teeth with durable, functional outcomes that preserve or restore chewing, aesthetics, and oral health.

Education and training typically include a dental degree followed by focused implant training, which may be provided through residency programs, fellowships, master’s programs, or certificate courses. Many practitioners pursue board certification or active membership in professional organizations such as the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) or the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
