Horseholding

Horseholding is a form of animal-assisted therapy and interaction that involves holding, petting, or grooming horses under the guidance of a trained professional. This practice is rooted in equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT), which leverage the unique bond between humans and horses to promote physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. Unlike traditional horseback riding therapy, horseholding focuses on direct physical contact without requiring the participant to mount or ride the animal.

The technique is often used in therapeutic settings to help individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma, or developmental challenges. Horses are highly sensitive animals, and their calm, intuitive nature allows them to respond to human emotions, making them effective partners in therapeutic work.
