Etymology and usage: The term traces to Latin formalitas and entered many languages through French and other European linguistic currents. In Romanian, the word is commonly used to describe procedural requirements, often involving documentation, signatures, or official steps.

Types and contexts: Legal formalities include the steps required by law to effect rights or duties, such as signing contracts, submitting forms, or obtaining official seals. Administrative formalities cover bureaucratic procedures for things like permits, licenses, or document recognition.
