Foillaitteet
Foillaitteet is a term used in Finnish engineering literature to describe a family of devices that exploit thin foil layers as functional elements in actuation, sensing, energy storage, and shielding. The word combines foil and laitteet (devices) and is applied to categorize flexible, foil-based components rather than a single device.
Conceptually, foillaitteet consist of a flexible foil substrate (metallic or polymer-based) with conductive or functional coatings
Applications span soft robotics, flexible sensing, and lightweight energy management. They include foil-based actuators and grippers
Advantages of foillaitteet include low weight, high flexibility, and compatibility with roll-to-roll fabrication, enabling cost-effective production
In Finnish technology discourse, foillaitteet are presented as an emerging class within flexible electronics and thin-film
