Enhetsprovisioning

Enhetsprovisioning is the process of preparing and configuring a newly acquired device so that it can be used within an organization's IT environment. It typically includes identity provisioning, enrollment in a mobile device management (MDM) or enterprise mobility management (EMM) system, configuration of security policies, network and access settings, and assignment of software licenses.

In enterprise IT, provisioning aims to bring devices to a known, compliant state with minimal manual setup. It commonly uses automated or zero-touch enrollment to streamline deployment. Well-known examples include Windows Autopilot, Apple Automated Device Enrollment, and Android zero-touch, but the concept applies to any method that places a device under management and policy control.

The provisioning process usually follows procurement and involves device activation, enrollment in a management platform, application of configuration profiles, installation of required software, enforcement of security controls (such as encryption, screen lock, VPN), network binding, and license assignment. It may also include identity federation, device inventory, and compliance checks.

Key components include provisioning servers or cloud services, MDM/EMM consoles, device catalogs, and policy templates, often integrated with identity providers and service management systems. Privacy and data protection considerations are addressed by separating corporate data from personal data where applicable and by enforcing least-privilege access.

Ongoing provisioning covers updates, reconfiguration, and policy changes throughout the device lifecycle, as well as planned decommissioning and retirement of devices. The term is applicable to traditional desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and various IoT endpoints in modern IT environments.
