Streamline is a term with several related meanings in engineering, design, and management. As a verb, to streamline means to redesign or reorganize a process, system, or organization to remove unnecessary steps, simplify workflows, and improve efficiency, speed, or consistency. Streamlining often involves standardizing procedures, eliminating redundant tasks, consolidating roles, and introducing automation or better tools. The result is a streamlined operation, product, or service. As a noun, streamline can refer to the simplified form achieved by this process, or in a physical sense to an aerodynamic form designed to minimize drag.

In fluid dynamics, a streamline is a curve that is tangent at every point to the velocity vector of a flow. In steady, incompressible flow the streamlines illustrate the path that a small fluid element would follow, and they help visualize circulation, vortices, and jet patterns. Streamlines do not intersect and can change with time in unsteady flows.

Applications of streamlining span manufacturing, supply chain management, and software or service delivery, where organizations seek faster throughput, lower costs, and improved quality. In product and vehicle design, streamlining emphasizes aerodynamic or hydrodynamic efficiency, giving rise to streamlined shapes and the broader design movement known as Streamline Moderne in the 1930s.
