Elektronikktesting is the systematic evaluation of electronic devices, circuits, and systems to verify function, performance, reliability, safety, and conformance with specifications. It spans design verification during development, quality assurance in manufacturing, and field service testing where applicable.

Core methods include functional testing, where the device is exercised under intended conditions; in-circuit testing (ICT) that checks components on assembled boards; boundary-scan testing for digital devices; and automated optical inspection for assembly quality. Environmental and reliability tests—temperature cycling, humidity, vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC tests—assess robustness and compliance.

Tools range from handheld and benchtop instruments to automated test equipment. Common instruments include multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers. Specialized setups use ICT fixtures, bed-of-nails or non-contact probes, boundary-scan hardware, and test software that drives sequences and analyzes results.

Process-wise, testing involves planning, developing test suites, executing tests, data capture, fault isolation, and root-cause analysis. Metrics such as defect density, yield, test coverage, and MTBF guide decisions and drive design-for-test improvements.

Standards and compliance are important in elektronikktesting. Key areas include IPC standards for electronics manufacturing, IEC 61000 EMC, IEC 61010 safety, and ISO 9001 quality management.

Applications span consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices, and aerospace. Effective testing reduces field failures, shortens time to market, and lowers warranty costs by verifying devices before release.

Emerging trends include boundary-scan and ICT advances, software-driven test development, AI-assisted fault localization, and a growing emphasis on design-for-testability and non-destructive testing.
