Designprinting is a term used to describe the integration of graphic design and printing processes to produce physical materials. It covers the preparation of artwork for print, the selection of substrates and inks, and the production workflow from initial concept to finished piece. The field emphasizes ensuring that design intent is faithfully reproduced in the final product and that production constraints are considered throughout.

Key components of the designprinting process include concept development, page layout, typography, color management, and prepress. Designers collaborate with printers to optimize files for specific presses, proofing methods, and finishing options. Common printing methods are offset lithography, digital printing, screen printing, and, in some cases, letterpress. Each method has different cost structures, turnaround times, and suitable substrates, influencing design decisions such as resolution, color richness, and durability.

Design considerations focus on print fidelity and practicality. Color is often managed in CMYK rather than RGB, with ICC profiles used to maintain consistency across devices. Resolution is typically 300 dots per inch for printed images. Files are prepared with bleed, safe margins, and embedded or subset fonts, and are delivered as print-ready PDFs or high-resolution TIFFs. Finishing options like coating, lamination, binding, and die-cutting affect both appearance and usability.
