Cyanopsitta

Cyanopsitta is a small genus of neotropical parrots in the family Psittacidae. In most taxonomic treatments it is monotypic, containing the Spix's macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii) as its sole species; some classifications place this species in the genus Ara (Ara spixii). The genus name derives from cyano- meaning blue and psitta meaning parrot.

Spix's macaw is a large, predominantly blue parrot with a pale facial skin area around the bill.

Behaviorally, Cyanopsitta spixii forms social groups outside the breeding season and typically pairs during the breeding

Conservation status and efforts: The species is listed as Critically Endangered, and is considered possibly extinct
