Chamrousse

Chamrousse is a French commune in the Isère department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Situated in the Belledonne mountain range, it is a well-known tourist destination, particularly for winter sports and summer hiking. The commune is composed of several hamlets, with Chamrousse 1650 and Chamrousse 1750 being the primary resort areas.

The area's development as a ski resort began in the mid-20th century, with significant infrastructure built for the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics. Chamrousse hosted the men's downhill skiing and men's cross-country skiing and biathlon events during those Games. Today, the resort offers a diverse range of slopes catering to all levels of skiers and snowboarders, alongside facilities for other winter activities like snowshoeing and sledding.

In the summer months, Chamrousse transforms into a hub for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails crisscross the surrounding mountains, offering breathtaking views of the French Alps. Mountain biking is also popular, with dedicated trails and a bike park. The lake of Achard, located at a high altitude, is a scenic spot for picnics and relaxation. The commune's natural setting and accessibility from Grenoble make it a popular getaway throughout the year.
