CMMmethodologie

CMMmethodologie refers to methodologies and practices for evaluating and improving organizational processes based on the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). It is commonly applied in software engineering, systems engineering, and IT service management, where organizations seek to raise the maturity of their process capabilities through structured improvement cycles.

The core idea is to define a roadmap of process capability. Traditional CMM describes maturity levels from 1 (Initial) to 5 (Optimizing). At each level, organizations establish and institutionalize processes across areas such as project management, configuration management, quality assurance, measurement, and organizational training. Modern variants, especially CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration), expand the framework to multiple life-cycle disciplines and domains, including Development, Services, and Acquisition.

Implementation typically involves process assessment, gap analysis, and an improvement plan. Appraisals, such as SCAMPI, are used to determine an organization's current maturity level and to guide progress toward higher maturity. CMMmethodologie is not prescriptive about specific tools or technologies and can be tailored to organizational context, size, and industry. It is often used alongside other standards and frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 15504 (SPICE), ISO 9001, or agile methods, with careful integration to balance rigor and flexibility. Critics note potential rigidity and cost, while supporters point to improved predictability, reduced process variation, and measurable performance gains.
