CASELin

CASELin is a digital platform designed to operationalize CASEL's social-emotional learning framework in K-12 settings. It provides resources, assessment tools, and analytics to help teachers implement SEL in daily instruction and to monitor student growth across the five core competencies.

The platform includes a curricular library of SEL activities aligned to the five CASEL competencies—self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. It offers teacher planning tools, formative rubrics, and student portfolios, along with classroom dashboards that display progress at the class, school, and district levels. Data exports and reporting features support stakeholder communication, while privacy, accessibility, and multilingual support are integral design considerations.

CASELin is designed to integrate with common learning management systems and student information systems, enabling single sign-on and interoperability with existing digital workflows. It also provides professional development modules for educators and guidelines for ethical data use and equitable implementation.

Development and governance: CASEL, in collaboration with researchers and practicing educators, conceived CASELin as part of its technology-enabled SEL initiatives. The concept was introduced in the early 2020s and has undergone multiple pilots in diverse districts. The project emphasizes open standards, data privacy, and ongoing evaluation to inform improvements.

Impact and reception: Early pilot evaluations reported improvements in student engagement, emotion recognition, and collaborative skills, with variations based on implementation fidelity.
