CASEL

CASEL, short for the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, is a nonprofit organization that aims to advance social and emotional learning (SEL) in education. It conducts research, develops frameworks, and provides resources and services to schools, districts, and policymakers to integrate SEL into teaching and learning.

The core of CASEL's work is the CASEL framework, a widely adopted model for SEL. It identifies five core competencies: self-awareness (recognizing one's emotions, thoughts, values), self-management (regulating emotions and behaviors), social awareness (empathy and perspective-taking), relationship skills (communication, cooperation, conflict resolution), and responsible decision-making (ethical, constructive choices).

To support implementation, CASEL publishes guides and tools, offers professional development, and collaborates with researchers and education agencies. It provides district-wide SEL frameworks, assessment tools, and guidance on aligning SEL with academic standards and school climate initiatives.

Founded in 1994, CASEL has become a leading voice in the SEL field, promoting evidence-based practices and policy guidance. It works with educators, researchers, and governments in the United States and internationally to scale SEL in classrooms and school communities.
