BitTorrentkezelést refers to the management of BitTorrent traffic. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing protocol used for distributing large files. In a BitTorrent network, users download pieces of a file from multiple sources (peers) simultaneously and also upload pieces they have already downloaded to other peers. This distributed nature makes it efficient for sharing large amounts of data.

Managing BitTorrent traffic is important for several reasons, including optimizing download and upload speeds, conserving bandwidth, and ensuring fair usage of network resources. Network administrators and users often employ various methods to control BitTorrent activity. These can include bandwidth shaping, also known as Quality of Service (QoS), which allows prioritizing or limiting the bandwidth allocated to BitTorrent traffic. Firewalls and intrusion detection systems can also be configured to monitor and block or restrict BitTorrent connections.

In corporate or public network environments, BitTorrent traffic is often heavily managed due to its high bandwidth consumption, which can impact the performance of other critical network services. Some organizations completely block BitTorrent to prevent potential legal issues related to copyright infringement or to maintain network stability. On a personal level, users might manage their BitTorrent client settings to limit upload speeds, which can sometimes improve download speeds and be more considerate of other users on their local network. Advanced users may also use VPNs to mask their BitTorrent activity or to connect to specific P2P-friendly servers.
