Zeilsport, or sailing sport, is the collective term for competitive and recreational activities that use boats propelled by sails. It covers a wide range of craft—from small dinghies to keelboats and offshore yachts—and takes place on seas, lakes, and rivers. Participants must manage wind, current, and boat trim to maximize speed and tactical advantage, making seamanship, strategy, and teamwork essential. The sport is governed internationally by World Sailing and supported by national federations, clubs, and event organizers.

Disciplines include dinghy racing (for classes such as Optimist and Laser), keelboat racing, match racing, fleet racing, and offshore or long-distance racing. Windsurfing and hydrofoil sailing are commonly considered part of zeilsport in many contexts. Racing uses one-design classes to ensure equal boats and handicap systems to allow mixed fleets to compete fairly. Major competitions include world championships, continental championships, and the sailing events at the Olympic Games; prominent professional events include the America's Cup and The Ocean Race.
