Vegetationer is a term used in ecology and biogeography to refer to the plant cover of a landscape, including the species composition, structural organization, and spatial arrangement of plant communities. It can describe the vegetation found in natural settings as well as vegetation shaped or maintained by human activity. The concept focuses on the collective characteristics of plants in a site rather than on individual species alone.

Classification of vegetationer typically follows two main approaches. Physiognomic classification groups vegetation by its visible form and structure, such as forests, shrublands, grasslands, wetlands, or deserts. Floristic classifications emphasize the species assemblage and can distinguish specific communities such as temperate deciduous forest, tropical rainforest, or mangrove stands. Key factors shaping vegetationer include climate (temperature and precipitation patterns), soil properties, hydrology, topography, and disturbance regimes such as fire, grazing, or land use change. Vegetationer are dynamic and respond to ecological succession, disturbances, and climate change, with some communities remaining relatively stable while others reorganize rapidly.
