Vannbrett is a term used in Norwegian architectural vocabulary to describe a projecting horizontal board on the exterior of a building that functions as a drip edge. It is typically located under windows or along the upper edge of walls where rainwater or melting snow would otherwise run directly into the wall surface.

The primary purpose of a vannbrett is to divert water away from the wall to prevent moisture penetration, staining, and deterioration of the facade or window joinery. By providing a slight overhang and guiding water outward, vannbrett helps protect masonry, timber, and insulation layers and can contribute to the longevity of a building.

Construction and materials vary, but vannbrett is commonly made from wood, stone, or concrete. In timber structures it may be an integral part of the cladding or a separate piece attached beneath a window sill. The design often includes a shallow slope away from the wall to enhance drainage, and it may be complemented by other rain-deflecting elements such as drip mouldings or flashing.

Maintenance involves inspecting for rot, cracking, or paint degradation, especially in wooden versions. Regular sealing, repainting, or reproofing helps preserve the board and the wall behind it. In restoration projects, the goal is to reproduce the original profile and material to maintain historical accuracy.

Vannbrett is most commonly associated with Nordic and Northern European building traditions, where climate conditions motivate functional features to manage rainfall. It can also appear in modern architecture as a stylistic or functional detail for weather protection.
