Deterioration refers to the gradual decline in condition, function, or quality of a material, object, system, or environment. It is the process by which an initial state becomes progressively worse over time due to internal deterioration or external factors. Deterioration can be physical, chemical, biological, or economic, and may be irreversible or reversible to some extent through repair or restoration.
