többízületi

Többízületi is a Hungarian medical term used as an adjective to describe involvement of multiple joints. It is applied to diseases or symptoms in which several joints are affected, as opposed to monoarthritis (one joint) or oligoarthritis (a small number of joints). The word is formed from több (many) and ízület (joint) with the suffix -i to create an adjective, and is commonly found in phrases such as többiízületi gyulladás (polyarthritis) and többiízületi fájdalom (polyarthralgia).

In clinical usage, többízületi involvement is a hallmark of many inflammatory arthritides. Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and certain forms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis frequently present with inflammation in several joints, often in a symmetrical pattern. Typical joints affected include small joints of the hands and feet, as well as wrists, knees, and ankles. Symptoms may include joint swelling, pain, stiffness (especially in the morning), and reduced range of motion. Laboratory findings, when present, can show elevated inflammatory markers such as ESR or CRP, and disease-specific autoantibodies (for example, rheumatoid factor or anti-CCP) depending on the underlying condition.

The term is descriptive and is used to distinguish polyarticular involvement from other patterns such as monoarthritis or polyarthralgia without objective inflammation. Differential diagnosis includes infectious arthritis and crystal-induced arthritis, among others. In practice, többízületi serves as a linguistic tool to guide evaluation and management toward conditions characterized by multi-joint disease.
