Challenges include balancing truth-telling with privacy, safety, or politeness, and dealing with uncertainty or incomplete information. Cultural norms about directness and disclosure also shape how truth-telling is practiced, sometimes leading to tensions between honesty and social harmony.

Contemporary concerns highlight the role of truth-telling in information ecosystems. Misinformation and disinformation erode trust, prompting efforts such as fact-checking, source verification, and open, transparent reporting, as well as protections for whistleblowers and the integrity of institutions that rely on truthful communication.
