Advanced versions may include defrost settings for frozen bread, bagel functions that toast only one side, and integrated warming racks for pastries. Safety features have evolved to include heat-resistant exteriors, automatic shut-off mechanisms, and removable crumb trays for easy cleaning.

Despite the availability of more complex kitchen appliances, toasters remain a household staple due to their simplicity and efficiency in preparing breakfast foods. Their compact size and relatively low cost make them accessible to most consumers worldwide.
