Torquer is a term with two related meanings in English. It can refer to a person who applies torque to a rotating element—typically a fastener—by using a torque-limiting tool; or to a device that generates or applies torque in a mechanical system, such as a torque motor or torque actuator.

As a person, a torquer uses tools such as torque wrenches, torque screwdrivers, or torque multipliers to tighten bolts to a specified torque. This practice is common in automotive repair, aircraft maintenance, industrial assembly, and construction, where accurate torque helps prevent fastener failure and joint loosening. In quality control, torque verification may be performed with a torque sensor or wrench that records the applied torque and confirms compliance with specifications.

As a device, a torquer in engineering usage is an actuator designed to provide rotational force. The term is frequently used for torque motors or torque actuators that convert electrical energy into a controlled torque output, enabling precise, rapid, or high-load rotation in servo systems, robotics, vibration testing, and flight simulators. Such devices may be brushless or tailored to specific torque ranges, speeds, and feedback options for closed-loop control, and they are often integrated with sensors or encoders to regulate performance.
