The approach is employed in dance pedagogy, sports conditioning, and physical therapy to explore balance, proprioception, and ankle mobility. The term blends the phrases "toe in" and "toe out" and tends to be descriptive rather than tightly standardized.

In practice, a typical toeintoeout sequence begins with feet hip-width apart. The practitioner rotates both feet inward to a toe-in position, holds briefly, then rotates outward to a toe-out position, and repeats for a set number of repetitions or time. Variants adjust the angles, hold times, or whether one foot remains fixed while the other moves, depending on goals such as turnout training, ankle stability, or sensorimotor conditioning.
