Terminalsystems enable users to interact with central resources via command lines or graphical interfaces delivered remotely, with the terminal device serving primarily as an input/output endpoint.

Historically, terminalsystems evolved from physical teletype and hardware terminals to networked terminals and later to software emulators running on standard PCs and thin clients.
