Studio ceramics, often written as studioceramics, is ceramic art and pottery produced primarily in a dedicated studio by individual artists or small workshops. Work is usually handmade or wheel-thrown and ranges from functional wares to sculptural pieces. The field emphasizes artistic expression, experimental surface decoration, and distinctive firing regimes rather than mass production.

While closely related to studio pottery, the term studio ceramics has broadened to encompass contemporary, gallery- and museum-facing practice. The movement emerged in the early 20th century in Britain and the United States, evolving from traditional craft toward modernist and postwar experimentation. Notable early figures include Bernard Leach, Shoji Hamada, and Michael Cardew, who stressed the studio as the primary production site.

Practices include wheel throwing, hand-building, and slip casting, with emphasis on glaze development and firing choices. Materials span stoneware and porcelain to terracotta, with finishes ranging from matte to high-fire crystalline glazes. Firing methods include electric, gas, wood-fired, or raku, each imparting distinct textures and colors. Surface treatment often involves slips, underglazes, majolica, and in-glaze decorative techniques.

Today studioceramics covers functional wares, sculptural objects, and installation works. Artists frequently operate independent studios, collaborate with craft guilds, and exhibit in galleries and museums. The field continues to explore materiality, form, and concept, sustaining a dialogue between craft traditions and contemporary art practice.
