Silikaattikeramiikka refers to a broad category of ceramic materials primarily composed of silicates. These materials are formed through the high-temperature firing of clay or other silicate-rich raw materials. The silicate structure, characterized by silicon-oxygen tetrahedra, forms the backbone of these ceramics, contributing to their inherent strength, hardness, and thermal stability.

The production of silikaattikeramiikka typically involves a multi-step process. Raw materials are carefully selected, often including clays, feldspars, and quartz. These components are mixed and processed, sometimes with the addition of water to form a workable paste. This paste is then shaped into the desired form through methods like molding, extrusion, or pressing. Once shaped, the "green" ceramic body is dried to remove excess moisture.
