Serigrafiatekniikoissa, commonly known as screen printing, is a printing method that uses a stencil to support an ink-blocking element. A screen is created by stretching a piece of mesh over a frame. This mesh is then treated to block out areas of the stencil where ink is not to be printed. Ink is then forced, or squeegeed, across the mesh onto the substrate. This method allows for precise application of inks and other printable materials onto a wide variety of surfaces.

The process begins with the creation of a stencil, often made from a photographic emulsion. This emulsion is applied to the screen and then exposed to light through a positive image of the design. The exposed areas harden, while the unexposed areas wash away, creating the open areas in the mesh through which ink can pass. Different mesh counts are used depending on the desired level of detail and the viscosity of the ink.

Screen printing is versatile and can be used on materials such as textiles, paper, plastic, glass, metal, and ceramics. It is a popular choice for printing graphics on t-shirts, posters, signage, and industrial components. The thickness of the ink deposit is generally greater than in other printing methods, which can result in vibrant colors and good opacity, especially on dark substrates. Multiple colors can be printed by using separate screens for each color in the design, which are then applied in a specific sequence to build up the final image. This technique is known for its durability and ability to produce high-quality prints.
