Scenografem is not a widely used term in standard Scandinavian theatre vocabulary. It appears mainly as a misspelling or nonstandard form of scenograf or scenografer. In Swedish and Norwegian, the profession is typically referred to as scenograf (singular) and scenografer (plural). The genitive forms are scenografens/scenografernes, depending on language. Because “scenografem” lacks a defined definition in major dictionaries, any use should be treated as nonstandard.

A scenograf is the designer responsible for the visual concept and look of a production. Working across theatre, film, and television, the scenograf designs sets, props, and the overall environment in which the action takes place. The role encompasses spatial planning, material choices, texture, color, and interaction with lighting and projection to support the director's interpretation.

Typical duties include developing concepts with the director, producing sketches, technical drawings, and maquettes; selecting construction methods and materials; coordinating with carpenters, prop makers, and wardrobe; creating schedules and budgets; and supervising construction, installation, and strike.

Education and training often combine art and engineering: studies in theatre design, architecture, or fine arts, plus hands-on experience in model making and technical drawing. Proficiency in CAD, 3D modeling, and collaboration with other designers is important.
