Runthrough (also spelled run-through or runthrough) is a term used across performing arts and media to describe a complete rehearsal or practice of a script, scene, or sequence from beginning to end. It implies running the material in order without stopping for major changes, though it can include designated cues, entrances, exits, or camera positions as planned. A runthrough typically follows earlier rehearsals such as table reads or blocking and precedes more technical work.

In theatre, runthroughs are used to test pacing, transitions, and timing of performances. They help identify problems with dialogue, stage business, or scene changes. Depending on the production stage, a runthrough may be conducted with minimal or no costumes and technical cues, or as a close-to-final run with lighting and sound prepared but not necessarily fully integrated. A dress rehearsal, by contrast, is often the final runthrough that includes full costumes and complete technical elements.

In film and television, runthroughs (or script runs) allow actors to rehearse scenes for dialogue, blocking, and camera coverage. These rehearsals may occur without cameras or sound, or with basic blocking, and they typically precede actual takes.

In sports and gaming contexts, a walk-through or runthrough refers to a practice session focused on learning sequences or routes rather than full-speed execution. In video games, a runthrough may describe a complete playthrough or demonstration of a level or game segment, sometimes for tutorials or speedrunning.
