roadheaders
Roadheaders are mobile rock-cutting machines used to excavate roadway and other underground headings in mining and civil tunneling. A typical roadheader features a hydraulic-powered cutting head mounted on a rotating boom attached to a tracked chassis. The cutting head carries a drum fitted with tungsten carbide picks that advance into the rock as the drum rotates. Cut material is usually discharged onto a conveyor system or moved by external loaders to the muck pile.
Design and operation systems include the boom, the cutting drum, a hydraulic drive for boom and drum
Advantages of roadheaders include flexibility in geometry, the ability to advance without blasting, and relatively lower
Roadheaders have evolved with advances in hydraulics, dust control, and automation and remain a common choice
