Randbewerkingslijnen, also known as edge processing lines or edge banding machines, are automated systems used in the woodworking and furniture manufacturing industry to apply decorative edges or veneers to the exposed edges of panel materials such as particleboard, MDF, or plywood. These lines are crucial for enhancing the aesthetic appeal and durability of furniture and other wood-based products.

A typical randbewerkingslijn consists of several sequential workstations. The process usually begins with cleaning the edge of the panel to ensure proper adhesion. This is followed by the application of glue, either hot melt adhesive or PVAC, onto the panel edge or the back of the edging material. The edging material, which can be made of PVC, ABS, veneer, or melamine, is then precisely fed and applied to the glued edge.

After application, the edging is trimmed to match the panel's dimensions. This trimming process often involves pre-milling and subsequent trimming to create a flush edge. Further stations may include scraping to remove any excess glue or irregularities, followed by polishing to achieve a smooth and finished appearance. Some advanced lines may also incorporate features like edge profiling for rounded or shaped edges, or even inkjet printing for decorative patterns. The automation in these lines ensures high precision, consistent quality, and increased production speed compared to manual edge banding methods.
