Rahapuu, the Estonian name for the money tree, refers to Pachira aquatica, a tropical tree native to swamps and riverbanks of Central and South America. It is widely grown as a decorative houseplant, especially in braided-trunk forms, and is associated in popular culture with prosperity.

The tree is evergreen and can reach several meters in the wild; indoor specimens typically stay under 2–3 meters. It has palmate leaves with five to seven leaflets that are glossy green. The trunk is green-brown, often braided for ornamental effect; in nature the tree produces large pods containing edible seeds.

Care requires bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. Water moderately, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged, and allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. It tolerates average indoor humidity and prefers warmth around 18–27 °C. Fertilize lightly during the growing season. Underwatering can cause leaf browning, while overwatering can lead to root rot.

Propagation is possible from seeds or cuttings. Seed germination is relatively fast in warm conditions. There are various cultivars and bonsai forms, but the basic plant remains Pachira aquatica. The plant is not a true money tree botanically, but it is commonly called money-tree due to feng shui traditions.

Cultural significance: In feng shui and popular culture, braided money trees are given as gifts to symbolize luck and prosperity, and they are often placed near entrances or in business settings to attract positive energy.
