Waterings is the plural form of watering, the act of applying water to soil or plant tissues to maintain adequate moisture for growth. In horticulture and agriculture, waterings occur as individual events or as part of an irrigation system, and they may target containers, garden beds, or root zones. Waterings differ from irrigation in scale and control but share the goal of supplying sufficient water to support photosynthesis and nutrient uptake while avoiding excess that can lead to disease or nutrient leaching.

Common methods include manual hand watering with a can or hose, drip irrigation, sprinkler systems, and subirrigation in containers. The volume and frequency of waterings depend on plant species, growth stage, soil texture, climate, season, and whether the plants are in pots or in the ground.

Overwatering and underwatering are both risks; signs include wilting, yellowing, slow growth, or damp, foul smells from saturated soil. To optimize waterings, gardeners water deeply to encourage deep roots, avoid wetting foliage to reduce disease, and adjust schedules to rainfall and soil moisture. Mulching reduces evaporation, and rainwater harvesting can supplement supplies. Monitoring can be done by checking soil moisture by feel, observing plant symptoms, or using soil moisture meters.
