Projekointi is the Finnish term for the design and planning phase of a project, especially in construction, architecture, and engineering. It covers translating a concept into concrete plans and documents that can be built, approved, tendered, and manufactured.

It typically follows feasibility or program work and precedes construction. During projekointi, professionals from multiple disciplines—architects, structural engineers, and mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers—produce detailed drawings, specifications, and schedules. Digital tools such as CAD and BIM are commonly used, and the work focuses on compliance with building codes, safety standards, and client requirements. Deliverables include construction drawings, technical specifications, and permit-ready documentation.

Output is used for tenders, contracts, and construction management. The process is closely coordinated with cost estimation and scheduling, and it may be divided into sub-phases such as initial design, detailed design, and coordination.
