Attendance data can be collected in various ways. Manual methods include sign-in sheets, roll calls, or time cards. Digital approaches include QR codes, barcode badges, RFID readers, biometric devices such as fingerprints or faces, and online check-in through learning management systems or human resources information systems. Some systems also employ geolocation or IP restrictions to verify that the participant is at the intended site.

Attendance records constitute personal data and are subject to data protection and privacy considerations. Organizations typically implement access controls, data minimization, secure storage, and retention policies, and they seek consent when required. Keeping accurate records supports payroll, safety compliance, and administrative planning.
