Metalstrimmel, commonly referred to as metal strip, is a flat, elongated piece of metal with a uniform cross-section. It is typically produced in coil form from wider sheet stock and then slit to customer widths, or manufactured directly by rolling and subsequently cutting to size. The term is used across several languages to describe strips of metal intended for structural, mechanical, electrical, or decorative uses.

Materials and properties vary with alloy. Common families include carbon steels and stainless steels for strength and corrosion resistance; aluminum and aluminum alloys for light weight; copper and copper alloys (such as brass and bronze) for high electrical conductivity and formability. Depending on the alloy and temper, strips can range from very soft and ductile to hard and spring-like. Surface finishes may be mill-polished, brushed, or coated with protective or decorative layers, such as zinc electroplating, polymer coatings, or passivation.

Manufacturing and processing methods involve hot or cold rolling to establish thickness and width, with further processing such as annealing to adjust temper, pickling for surface cleaning, and slitting to achieve precise widths. Tolerances for thickness, width, flatness, and straightness are specified by standards and the end-use requirements.

Applications are diverse. Metal strips serve as shim stock or spacers, reinforcement in assemblies, electrical bus bars or grounding straps, and components in springs or flexible conductors. They are also used in construction, automotive, electronics, and consumer products, often in coil form for automated processing.

Quality and standards are governed by national and international specifications (for example, material grades, thickness tolerances, and surface quality) to ensure consistency across suppliers and applications.
