Medailí is a Czech and Slovak term for a medal or medallion. It denotes a piece of metal, often round, that is produced to recognize achievement, commemorate an event, or serve as a decorative object. In everyday language and in official contexts, medailí can refer to individual medals as well as the broader category of medallic awards.

Medals are used in a variety of contexts. Military, civilian, sports, and participation awards frequently take the form of medailí. Commemorative units are minted to mark anniversaries, exhibitions, or significant national events. Commercial and corporate medallions are produced for branding, prizes, or fundraising, and may be attached to ribbons or displayed as keepsakes.

Design and manufacture typically involve a fixed obverse and reverse with inscriptions, portraits, or symbolic imagery, along with a maker’s mark and sometimes a denomination. Medals are usually struck in metal—gold, silver, bronze, or base metals—and may be gilded, enameled, or otherwise decorated.
