Materialeinjekt is a term used in materials engineering to describe a family of processes that introduce a secondary material into a host matrix by injection under pressure. The aim is impregnation, infiltration, or encapsulation of pores, channels, or cavities to improve properties such as strength, stiffness, sealing, or functional performance. The concept is applicable to polymers, ceramics, metals, and composites and often involves porous or hollow substrates.

The term is of German origin, combining Material with Einjekt (injection). In practice, materialeinjekt covers methods in which a liquid or molten material is driven into a substrate through predefined entry points, microchannels, or surface features. Pretreatments such as drying, cleaning, or priming may be used to enhance flow and adhesion. Typical injection materials include epoxy or polyurethanes for resins, silicone or fluoropolymers for seals, metal alloys or ceramic slurries for impregnation, and certain thermally or chemically curable systems.

Process steps generally encompass substrate preparation, selection and conditioning of the injection material (viscosity, temperature, curing behavior), application of pressure or vacuum to promote flow, monitoring of fill quality and distribution, followed by curing or solidification and post-processing to achieve the desired properties. Equipment ranges from dosing pumps and pressure controls to injection nozzles, vacuum chambers, and curing ovens.

Applications span composite fabrication and repair, concrete crack injection, encapsulation or potting of porous assemblies, and impregnation of porous catalysts or filters. Benefits include enhanced mechanical integrity, reduced permeability, and the ability to tailor thermal, electrical, or chemical properties. Challenges involve achieving uniform distribution, managing viscosity and flow, avoiding substrate damage, and ensuring material compatibility and environmental safety.
