Läpiliitäntä, a Finnish term, translates to "through-hole" in English and refers to a family of electronic components that are mounted on printed circuit boards (PCBs) by inserting their leads through drilled holes. This method contrasts with surface-mount technology (SMT), where components are soldered directly onto the surface of the PCB.

Components utilizing läpiliitäntä technology, often called through-hole components, typically have long leads or pins that pass through holes in the PCB. These leads are then soldered to copper traces on the opposite side of the board, creating a robust mechanical and electrical connection. This soldering can be done manually or through automated wave soldering processes.

Läpiliitäntä components are known for their durability and ease of handling, making them suitable for applications requiring strong mechanical stress or where manual assembly is preferred. They are commonly used for larger components such as capacitors, resistors, connectors, and integrated circuits, especially in prototyping, hobbyist projects, and high-power or high-vibration environments.
