Operations typically begin with planning and access management, followed by felling, delimbing, bucking, and processing into logs. Skidding or forwarding moves logs to roadside piles for transport. Modern practices emphasize sustainable harvesting, reduced damage to remaining trees, reforestation, and compliance with regulations and certification standards.

In computing, logging creates time-stamped records, or log entries, that document system behavior, errors, security events, and user actions. Log data enable debugging, performance monitoring, auditing, and incident investigation. Common practices include defining log levels (debug, info, warning, error, critical), using standardized formats, rotating and compressing files, and protecting sensitive information through access controls and anonymization.

Historically, forestry logging evolved from manual labor to mechanized operations with sawmills and transport equipment, accompanied by growing attention to sustainable management. Computing logging emerged with early operating systems and has since become a central tool in software development, IT operations, and cybersecurity.
