Lisavõimsus, often translated as "additional power" or "boost," refers to the temporary increase in a vehicle's engine output. This is typically achieved through various mechanical or electronic systems designed to deliver more air and fuel to the combustion chamber, thereby generating a higher torque and horsepower.

Common methods for achieving lisavõimsus include turbocharging and supercharging. Turbochargers utilize exhaust gases to spin a turbine, which in turn drives a compressor that forces more air into the engine. Superchargers, on the other hand, are mechanically driven by the engine itself, usually via a belt or gears, to perform the same air-compressing function.

Another form of lisavõimsus can be achieved through electronic tuning or engine remapping. This involves altering the engine control unit's (ECU) software to optimize fuel injection and ignition timing for increased performance. In some high-performance vehicles, water-methanol injection systems are also employed. These systems inject a mixture of water and methanol into the intake manifold, which cools the incoming air charge and suppresses detonation, allowing for more aggressive ignition timing and thus, increased power.

The primary benefit of lisavõimsus is enhanced acceleration and improved responsiveness, making the vehicle feel more potent and capable, especially during overtaking maneuvers or when merging into traffic.
