Kennismodel is a Dutch term that does not have a single, official definition. Its meaning varies by context, and in practice it is often used as a generic label for a framework that supports introduction, familiarity, or understanding of a topic, system, or organization. Because of this variability, the term is sometimes complemented by more precise qualifiers.

Onboarding or familiarization framework

In education, training, human resources, or user onboarding, a kennismodel describes a process for getting someone acquainted with a new system or context. Typical elements include an initial orientation, demonstrations or guided practice, opportunities for feedback, and subsequent evaluation or follow-up. The goal is to shorten the time to competence and increase comfort and confidence with the subject matter or tool.

Knowledge representation and management

In knowledge management or information science, a closely related idea is a knowledge model. Although often written as kennismodel, it can appear as kennismodel in informal usage. A knowledge model is a representation of concepts and their relationships within a domain, used to organize information, support reasoning, and facilitate sharing. Common forms include ontologies, taxonomies, and concept maps.

Marketing and user experience

In marketing or UX contexts, an awareness or recognition model may describe how a potential customer becomes aware of a product or brand. Stages can range from unaware to problem aware, solution aware, product aware, and most aware, guiding strategy for messaging and channel choice.
