Kaameraoperaator (camera operator) on the professional who operates a camera on a film, television, or video production. The role translates the director’s and cinematographer’s visual plan into captured images. The camera operator handles framing and camera movement during takes, including panning, tilting, tracking, and the use of rigs such as dollies, cranes, steadicams, or gimbals. In most productions, the Director of Photography designs the look and lighting, while the operator executes shots and maintains continuity. Focus and exposure are usually managed by the first assistant camera (focus puller) and the lighting team, with the operator coordinating to achieve the intended result.

Equipment and techniques include working with digital cinema cameras (for example ARRI Alexa, RED, or comparable systems), lenses, monitor and recording setups, follow focuses, matte boxes, and stabilization gear. Operators may work handheld, on a dolly, on a steadicam, or with a crane, depending on the shot. On some productions, additional personnel assist with focus, battery management, and set safety to support efficient work flows.

Training and career: Many kaameraoperaator begin in the camera department as assistants and advance to camera operator through on-set experience or formal film training. A solid understanding of composition, camera settings, safety, and clear communication with the crew is essential.
