Humansystem is a term used to describe the integrated functioning of a human being as a system composed of biological, cognitive, and social subsystems, interacting with technological artifacts and environmental contexts. The concept emphasizes holistic perspectives that connect physiological processes—such as metabolism, respiration, circulation, and immune function—with mental processes, perception, memory, decision making, and social behavior. In practice, humansystem aligns with ideas from systems biology, cybernetics, and human factors, treating the person as an adaptive agent embedded in larger systems such as teams, workplaces, and urban infrastructures.

In research and design, the humansystem perspective investigates how changes in one part of the system affect others, including how stress, sleep, nutrition, or illness propagate through neuroendocrine or immune pathways, and how user interfaces and environments modulate attention, workload, and safety.

Applications include medicine (rehabilitation and personalized medicine), aerospace and industrial design (human-system integration), transportation (driver-vehicle interaction), and consumer technology (ubiquitous health monitoring and smart environments).

Not all uses of the term are standardized; humansystem is often used interchangeably with or as a shorthand for human-system integration (HSI) or systems theory approaches to biology and behavior. The term highlights a shift from siloed specialties toward interdisciplinary collaboration.

Challenges include the complexity of multi-scale models, data privacy concerns, and the variability across individuals and contexts. Ongoing research seeks to develop interoperable frameworks for modeling, measurement, and intervention that acknowledge the dynamic, context-dependent nature of the human system.
