Nematodes, such as *Ascaris lumbricoides* and *Enterobius vermicularis*, commonly infect the intestines, causing symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and malnutrition. *Wuchereria bancrofti*, a filarial nematode, can lead to lymphatic filariasis, a condition that causes swelling in the limbs and genitals. Trematodes, like *Schistosoma spp.*, infect blood vessels and organs, often resulting in chronic inflammation, organ damage, and diseases such as schistosomiasis. Cestodes, such as *Taenia solium* and *Echinococcus granulosus*, are tapeworms that can cause intestinal infections or severe complications, including cystic echinococcosis in the liver or lungs.

Transmission of helminth infections typically occurs through contaminated food, water, soil, or direct contact with infected individuals or animals. Poor sanitation, lack of clean water, and close contact with infected feces or urine are major risk factors. Diagnosis often involves microscopic examination of stool, blood, or tissue samples, while imaging techniques like ultrasound or X-ray may be used for certain infections.

Treatment generally involves antiparasitic drugs such as albendazole, mebendazole, or praziquantel, depending on the type of helminth. Prevention focuses on improving hygiene, sanitation, and access to clean water, as well as public health measures like deworming campaigns in endemic regions. Chronic or severe infections may require medical intervention to address complications. Global efforts to control helminth infections emphasize education, infrastructure development, and integrated health programs.
